The American Purple Gallinule is painted with acrylic paints, paired with Borosilicate based color shifting powder pigments infused in an acrylic varnish medium. This painting comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from the artist. NOTE: This picture is presently not matted and framed. When you order it, the artist will have it professionally framed with a double matting and glare-resistant glass. It takes the frame shop 2-3 weeks to frame a painting. Artist Note

Ken Johnson is an award-winning heritage feather painting artist. His feather paintings have been showcased in galleries all along the Gulf Coast of the United States. Along the Gulf Coast wetlands, there are a plethora of migratory birds. In particular, there is a family of wading birds called "rails." Prized for their meat and relative ease to hunt, rails are sometimes given a variety of slang terms such as moorhen or swamphen. While the common gallinule is widely seen all along the Gulf Coast, the American Purple Gallinule is rather rare and is known for its shimmering plumage. Many water fowl hunters consider the American Purple Gallinule more as a once-in-a-lifetime trophy animal. While researching this animal, the owner of the California-based 8bit Baits reached out to the artist and provided him some special Borosilicate based color shifting powder pigments for this project. This "Pixie Dust," as it is marketed as by 8bit Baits, is extremely fine and usually intended for extremely high temperature applications by artificial bait makers. The artist devised a method, using an acrylic varnish medium, in order to turn these color shifting powders into paints. The intention of the painting was to showcase a wading bird that the average American might not have ever heard of before.
